CURATOR'S NOTE
Deep Relief changes the character of the M249 by treating its silhouette as part of the graphic design. The key is the tension between Black and Brown: one attracts the eye, the other gives the painted and material contrast room to register. It is the restraint between those elements—not sheer saturation—that gives the finish its character.

MAIN GESTURE
Across the receiver and upper shroud, Deep Relief concentrates most of the Black. This is where the surface-specific graphic treatment reads most clearly and where the M249 gains its first visual anchor.
QUIETER SUPPORT
The stock and magazine housing introduce Brown as a counterweight. On Deep Relief, that shift prevents Black from flattening the design and gives the painted and material contrast a more deliberate rhythm.
EDGE DETAIL
The barrel, bipod and exposed hardware act as a visual release point: Green and exposed material reduce the density of Deep Relief and sharpen the boundary between finish and hardware.
