CURATOR'S NOTE

Warbird changes the character of the M249 by treating its silhouette as part of the graphic design. Its surface-specific graphic treatment is carried by Black, then tempered by Brown so the finish does not collapse into a single block of colour. It is the restraint between those elements—not sheer saturation—that gives the finish its character.

DETAILS / CLOSE-UP

PRIMARY FIELD

Black is most assertive on the receiver and upper shroud, turning that section into the visual anchor of Warbird. The surface-specific graphic treatment is easiest to understand here.

SECONDARY RHYTHM

Moving into the stock and magazine housing, Brown interrupts the main field just enough to separate the surfaces. That pacing is what keeps Warbird readable on the M249.

MATERIAL BREAK

Near the barrel, bipod and exposed hardware, the finish steps back. Grey becomes the final accent, allowing the M249's physical construction to close the composition. On this M249, that role is specific to Warbird.
