CURATOR'S NOTE

Spider Lily is strongest when you read it as a composition rather than a colour sample. Its surface-specific graphic treatment is carried by Black, then tempered by Blue so the finish does not collapse into a single block of colour. It is the restraint between those elements—not sheer saturation—that gives the finish its character.
DETAILS / CLOSE-UP
SURFACE FOCUS
Black is most assertive on the receiver and handguard, turning that section into the visual anchor of Spider Lily. The surface-specific graphic treatment is easiest to understand here.
STRUCTURAL BREAK
The stock and magazine introduce Blue as a counterweight. On Spider Lily, that shift prevents Black from flattening the design and gives the painted and material contrast a more deliberate rhythm.
FINAL ACCENT
At the barrel assembly and exposed hardware, Grey and the underlying construction become more visible. The quieter treatment frames the painted areas instead of competing with them. On this M4A4, that role is specific to Spider Lily.
