CURATOR'S NOTE
On the M249, Midnight Palm works through hierarchy: one visual idea leads, the rest supports it. Rather than spreading every colour evenly, the finish lets Black dominate and uses Grey to articulate the M249's major breaks. Nothing needs to be exaggerated; the palette and surface treatment already create a strong visual signature.
DETAILS / CLOSE-UP
PRIMARY FIELD
Across the receiver and upper shroud, Midnight Palm concentrates most of the Black. This is where the dark tonal blocking reads most clearly and where the M249 gains its first visual anchor.
SECONDARY RHYTHM
The stock and magazine housing introduce Grey as a counterweight. On Midnight Palm, that shift prevents Black from flattening the design and gives the low-sheen coated surface a more deliberate rhythm.
MATERIAL BREAK
At the barrel, bipod and exposed hardware, Brown and the underlying construction become more visible. The quieter treatment frames the painted areas instead of competing with them. On this M249, that role is specific to Midnight Palm.
